First class boys and girls were finding out all about the animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctic. They learned that insulation is really important since it keeps the animals from freezing in the extreme cold. They worked with their teachers to design and test a homemade blubber instrument. What they discovered really blew their minds!
When the students used lard and butter to create a layer of blubber around their hand, they were able to keep their hand in the icy water for much longer. They were amazed.
"Blubber keeps your hand from freezing in the cold water."
