Engineering

Our school loves to explore Engineering in lots of different ways.  Our blog page details a full list of the investigations we explored in order to complete the steps in the SFI requirements.

Requirements:

1 Design and make activities - e.g. making models.

2 Organise an event during Engineers Week 2019.

Design and Make

Programmable Lego

Senior students used Lego WeDo 2.0 to design, build and test a number of lego models.

Engineering Week 2019

Showcase

Design and make showcases were organised by sixth class students.  They built pasta towers with fourth class, built catapults with fifth class and designed egg protectors with second class and some sixth classes.  The designs were shared and then edited.  They even made a video of the proceedings.

Other Activities

1. Using Lego WeDo 2.0 to design, build and create a racing car, helicopter, robot, pollinator, windmill, snail and dumper truck.

2. Designing and making bridges based on an exploration of bridges in Ireland and abroad.

3. Designing and making airplanes based on an examination of aerodynamics.

4. Designing and making boats based on an exploration of boats on the river Liffey.

5. Making an egg protector from lego.

6. Creating a tower using pasta.

7. Designing and making a catapult using lollipop sticks and spoons.
