Engineering Week 2019 - Day 1

We are delighted to participate in #EngWeek19 which is a celebration of engineering and engineers. A group of sixth class students designed, rehearsed and then delivered a number of workshops to other classes in the school. The results have left us truly amazed. We have such a talented group of students here in Huntstown. Well done everyone for your ingenuity.

In second class, the challenge presented to the boys and girls was to design a device which might protect an egg from breaking if it was dropped. We loved how the boys and girls worked on their design together and then tested their creation. They also used lots of Mathematics to decide on the height of the drop and the shape of the container. Well done.

In fourth class, the boys and girls were treated to the 'Pasta Tower Challenge'. Using both Mathematics and Engineering, they had to design and build the tallest tower possible. They found that a strong foundation was essential. The sixth class students running the workshop, had created a powerpoint display to show examples of towers from across the world. They also guided the boys and girls on how best to realise their designs. A really positive experience for all involved.
